As our site is all about helping people to help themselves by gaining the confidence to better them self and their lives we were very pleased to find a charity that does exactly the same. Its not about handouts or being given enough to keep you going for a few more weeks, its about being given a helping hand to make things better yourself.
Kiva
is a non profit organization that allows you to loan money to people in 3rd world countries, the process is simple, you sign up, decide which of the entrepreneurs you wish to loan money. Those people then start up their business and repay the loan back to you over time. You will be updated on re-payments via postings on the site and e-mail. Once you have been replayed you can then either re-lend to someone else, donate funds to the charity itself (to cover operational expenses), or withdraw the funds.
